For those of you that have installed driving lights and actuate them with factory upfitter switches, I'd like some information on what to wire to the upfitter switch.
I'm planning on installing a set of Hella Rally 4000 lights using the Hella wiring harness. I believe this harness comes with a fuse, relay and switch.
I know where the pass through (red, black, blue & white) wires are unnder the hood and where the other ends are above the fuse panel. I know where the four wires coming from the upfitter switches are (I've hooked up AUX 4 - purple w/green stripe to BCP battery charge protect curcuit).
What I'm not sure about is activating the driving light relay (if I even need the Hella relay) with the upfitter switches. Should there be just one wire coming from the relay through the firewall and connecting with the wire from the upfitter switch?
I need to know how to hook the AUX 1 upfitter switch to turn the lights on. My limited electrical know how leads me to believe I need TWO wires to complete a curcuit, so looking at that SINGLE wire from AUX 1 has me a bit baffled.
There should be a single wire telling the relay to trip. Best thing is to splice it into the positive wire in the headlight switch. This keeps you from forgeting to shut off the lights. the driving lights will only come ono if the parking or head lights are on.

Stan,
I have a pair of KC Daylighters hooked up to my Aux #1. I didn't bother with the relay because switch #1 has plenty of power on it's own. The relay is really to be used if you're using the Hella switch. That Hella switch can't handle the amperage draw those lights use. Two 55 watt driving lights will draw real close to 10amps so any of the upfitters have enough juice to handle two auxillary lights alone.
As for two wires, one is the switched red positve going to the lights from the Aux #1 Switch and the other is the black ground wire that should be grounded to a good ground somewhere as close to the lights as possible.
I know on the 06 the upfitter switches were a seperate option from the tow command system. I don't see the upfitter switches on the 07's options. Are upfitter switches included with the tow command system on the 07's or is it still a seperate option?
You can also build & price on over at Cars.com, and a few other sites.
(I'd link the '07 order guide, but I have the .PDF downloaded locally, and don't remember the URL off the top of my head. Maybe one of the other members can link it for you.)
I have a set of driving lights hooked up to my #1 switch and the switch is power only when the key is turned on. I leave the #1 switch in the on position all the time since the lights go out when I turn off the truck. That way they are just like day time running lights.

Your concern on a second wire, normally a ground, is happening at the light attachment?
Warrior you could, but the those would be better attached to the accessory power wire under the dash. The switches are best for things that you wouldn't want on all the time the accessory is on and don't already have a power switch you can reach. I use #2 for driving lights, but I may move this to a footswitch as I find that faster to activate when needed. #3 for high idle, but I could save that one and wire high idle to activate with the emergency brake. One will be back up lights and another will be an air compressor eventually, or so I the plan goes, but you know how things change.
I just picked up the switch assembly, harness etc. My truck has the tow/command {came with}. Going to run a set of KC'S on my grille guard. I am just curious as to whether I need any more parts for what everyone is calling the "high idle" to wire it in to one of the switches ?
