FIXED! Update

We found the problem on my new 06. Just as I expected, it was tire balance. The service manager at the truck shop got the rep for the balance machine to come out. What he discoverd was that the 20 inch wheels required a different cone to line the wheel up on the balnce machine. Once resolved, the tires were balanced and road forced once again and the problem has been resolved. I guess they have to chalk that one up to experience. The truck rides noticably smootherat all speeds now with no steering wheel shake.

bouncy bouncy on 2006 f350 sdty crew fx4 4x4 diesel

Howdy guys. Now I know I'm not alone. I bought mine at the end of June. Around 2k miles on it now. Went from a 1997 Ch*vy 2500 to this Peterbilt. I did keep the Ch*vy though because at 227,000 on original motor and trans, It definitely wasn't a lemon. Besides the Ford is too pretty to do Tile Contracting out of. Anyway as to the bouncing, I noticed it around the 68 mph to 75 mph threshold. As I went over 75mph it was definitely less pronounced, like around the 80-84 mph threshold; I did notice that the road condition visually played some role as out here in Cali- some of the concrete freeways are poured sections of concrete closely spaced and on these areas of the road the bounce was tremendous, however on long streches of smooth asphalt, the bounce would disappear. My main concerns would be wondering if I need to get mine back to the dealer to have em check out those 18" Contitracs. As this seems to be a prevaling issue for some of the users here on the forum. Nice to meet ya
Oh I forgot. Is there a skid plate available for this truck that protects the oil pan area yet would allow you to change the oil still- besides the ones they threw on my fx4? Thanks

I don't have the Fx4 package so I don't know about the skid plate. I wouldn't think that it would be a problem to modify the exisitng one to permit this or even building your own. Of course that's the 48-50 F1 guy in me coming out.

Also, welcome to FTE. Hope you find the site useful. I certainly have.

i have a 2006 f-350 4x4 short box and mine bounces at 48-50 mph. the dealer has changed wheels & tires and it still bounces. the ford dealer says they have done all that the factory will authorize them to do. i'm stuck with a new truck that bounces.

Bounce

A Good Way To Do It Is Place A 1/4' Steel Plate Back There And Use The Rubber Bed Mat Over It Improves The Ride And Dont Need To See Those Sand Bags

I do technically agree with you this will make a big difference because the weight is changing the harmonic. But it also reminds me of flying in Vietnam with only 12" of armor plate in my plane that was 8' wide by 20 ' long. Plane barely got off the runway due to the extra 40 TONS of weight. If you decide to do this please bolt the plate to the bed so it remains attached. If there is ever a sudden stoppage of the vehicle because that much weight could potentially cut the cab in half. Hope ya'll find a solution to the vibration because it is really a nusiance.

PS.. If anyone has an IRD vibration analysis machine it would be great to know the exact frequency of vibration to determine which rotating mass is causing the vibration. But given the base machine cost about $20,000 perhaps noone has one. Best of luck Jim

My truck has been in the shop for the last two days. I will you all know if they fix it or not and what they did. This is he second chance they have had to fix it. My truck has 1600 miles and one more time I am filing lemon law. If lemon law I hope the 0% for 72 mos is still around.

Got a call yesterday at 5 pm. They ordered two new wrangler 20" tires for the rear. They could not get the road force balance on these two tires either. They had replaced all four tires the last visit. The dealer advised they are going to have the shop foreman look at vehicle with wheels on the rear wheels spinning on rack to see what they need to do. The regional for rep is stopping by today as well to see what they need to do.

My '07 350 CC LB PSD does exactly the same thing, right at 42 MPH. But I have the factory 18" wheels and Contis. Hops like it on air bags or something. Already had the tires balanced and although the ride was smoother overall, the hop is still there.

The shop foreman said he has seen this problem numerous times with the Contis. I'm going to see if we can work a credit towards some different brand tires. Maybe I can get a set of Terra Grapplers out of it. Doubtful, but can't hurt to ask. So it's back to the dealer on Monday...

mine does it after replacing of all 4 tires. i have tried 2 sets of aftermarket tires and 2 sets of factory tires to no avail. Just recently tried to have my new wheels and tires road forced but the wheels could not due to spokes coming out to wheel face(hard to explain). still does it at 42 MPH.

just got back from mexicali mexico yesterday. About 200 miles one way home to Chino, Ca. I had the tires rebalanced be-4 I left on Tues the 12th of sept. Although the place told me the right sides were out .75 If I remember correctly- there was some improvement but again, on flat asphalt, - no extreme bounce but certain sections, closely grouped slabs of cement - bout shook my kidneys into my brain. I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread to see if there is more to this problem than meets the eye. It would seem that a vehicle this big with such a stiff suspension is going to have some bounce to it but I dont know if you would agree with me on that. The bounce just seems like a little too much

I have 06 - F-350 Dually - and the whole truck bounces so bad at times you can hardly drive it! Dealer has replaced the sucky shocks on the rear -- and that helped somewhat -- now have new fronts on order. Techs have driven it - and agree with me - the trucks sucks big time! Now just not sure how to fix it. We'll wait and see what happens when the new front shocks are installed.

I have 26K miles on this truck - have added 500 lbs to the rear ---- doesn't help ---- lowered and raised tire pressures -- bought new front tires --- nothing yet has helped!

I'm talking about bouncing where the whole truck is going up and down... not tire out of balance shake!

Wow, You guys seem to have a worse problem than I do. My bouncing is not that bad. I will keep posted as to what the dealer does.
