i have 2005 crewcab 350 4x4 with 25000 miles. truck weight around 9500 with payload.
miles per gal around 13 to 15 city light high way
just removed muffler and replaced it with a section of pipe 3" at that.
thats half inch under the the existing pipe. the pipe was custom bent by a pro. to match the muffler
mile per gal up to high 15 low 16s same route. every day,and is
not much louder. turbo keeps the noise down
but is louder under load but not much louder
could you build a gallery and post some pictures of it? I'm planning to do that but I'll probably run a 5" pipe from the cat back. Did your egts go down? Do you have a tuner installed?
Why did you let them use 3". I used a 3.5" and if the muffler guy can weld worth a crap than you can flare out the ends and there is no need to bend anything. A piece of straight pipe that short will work just fine. Email me and I will send you some pics of mine. It does not look out of place at all. Looks great.
PS also did the cat the same way and wow is all I can say.
Any warranty issues with removing the muffler? I've been thinking about doin this myself for a while but you know how it seems some of these trucks need the warranty just to stay alive, I just hope mine won't ever.
My understanding is that the muffler is not a way of voiding the warranty. The cat can however void it. It really depends on your dealer and your relationship with them in my opinion. The real problem for some of my friends has been with making modifications to their rigs and then having something break down not in the area where they live and the dealer would not warranty it, but the one in their area would.
The dealer should love it, it lowers the egt and the less heat on the turbo the better. That's what one of my mechanic friends from ford told me. And true about the cat just leave it alone if not, get a cat delete pipe and when taking your rig in for service, put the cat back.
I knew my dealer was mod friendly due to the fact that they sell new trucks with lift/tire kits as well as banks kits. But to be safe I did check with them at the service desk prior to removing anything. They told me they don't report mods like this.
They did tell me that if I run a tuner return it to stock prior to work for one of two reasons. They did not want to mess up the program or the tuner, and if it was a situation where Ford had to do an inspection they did not want to have to wait for me to return to remove the tuner.
