My buddy's got a 02 F150 4x4. He wants me to pick him out a detroit locker to install on it. He says it's an 8.8, but he showed me an axle and it's got 34 splines. Need help identifying exactly which rear end this is so I can get the right locker.
The tag on the differential will give you the ring gear size in the second line, after the gear ratio's 3 or 4 digits the next 2 or 3 digits will be the ring gear (8 8 or 9 75).
If it's the front... that's a reverse cut 8.8. They require a special locker designed just for their housing.
It's the rear differential. My next question is, to keep the stock axles with c clips, can you use any locker for that rear end, or do you have to use the ones designed for the c clips?
I do not know the answer to that question. Hopefully someone will wander in here with the answer.
I'd figure if they don't use the c-clips, then there has to be a way to hold the axles in the tubes on the 8.8" and 9.75" rears built into the locker. These rear ends don't come from the factory without c-clips.
