Dome light wiring

I spent Easter weekend installing an alarm in my truck since some punk decided to rip my radio out of the dash a few months ago. During the process, I installed door jamb switches and wired up the dome light. For those interested in adding this feature, I will be adding the install instructions as well as photos to my homepage very soon. I realize it is just a simple set-up but just tickles me to open the door after work every evening and SEE the inside of my truck now!

K, that is one of the things that I want to do to my truck as well as adding a stop and cargo light to the back of the cab. I had thought about adding them to both sides over the doors. Haven't done much more than drive the truck, lately.

I also have thought about the door activated dome light, it would be nice! My truck still has the black rubber plugs in the lower door area. I am not sure if a door plunger was available on the 61-66, but after looking at some spare '72 buttons I have, I just might do it using them. Too bad I didn't save the wire harness from the '72 so I could adapt the Ford Wires!

I used grounding type switches found in GM vehicles so I lost the headlight switch feature and have to open a door to turn on the light. If you use early Ford switches, they cut out the positive side of the circuit and you can keep the headlight switch feature.
I mounted the jamb switches up near the upper door hinge between the bolt access and the lip that almost meets the door. This gave me the clearance I needed to not bend the switch.

John,

I had an idea the other day to use a third brake light/cargo light combo from a newer model Ford Ext cab. That could just possibly work, since both cabs are rounded right at the top above the rear window.

I could do some more looking into that if anyone's interested?

Oh by the way, I'm back! Now that I have some time off from work, thankfully. After Sept 2001, they were working us to death, 3 people covering 5 shifts. I had no time off. At one point I had worked 58 out of 64 days straight, and last month we figured the time up. I worked a grand total of 1800 hours from August until March.

Now it's time to play with the truck!
