Transmission servic

Okay guys, need your opinion,
Truck is getting close to 30k and I called the dealer for a price on a tranny service. The price wasn't so bad, $150, but he said they back flush the thing with a detergent, then flush it out with fresh oil. They never drop the pan or change the filter.
It just don't sound right to me. Of course, I could be wrong and thats the way they do it these days. Time to look for a new dealer ?

Nope--that's the procedure recommended by Ford. My dealership had a fit because I wanted my filter changed at 30K, which was right around the time they were having tranny issues due to improper machining. I told them it was MY dime and CHANGE the pan filter too. had it flushed at 60K (their choice) and I was fine with it. I have 71K miles with a moderate amount of towing and some serious tire abuse--lol--and mine shifts like new. They DO change the auxillary canister filter under the right front corner I believe--it's easier than an engine oil change anyways--or they should.

I have 172,000 mi. on the old '01 PSD F250 and have had the trans flushed and refilled every 50000 mi. Haven't had a problem what-so-ever with this schedule. The engine gets its oil changed every 7000-7500 mi. and absolutely no oil consumption in between. Always had Rotella 15-40 winter and summer. Lots of 5th wheel towing and open road trips. Not much city driving. I am trying to tell myself I want to sell the old gal, but its so faithful I'm having a hard time. I have an '05 PSD 4x4, same everything as '01, but only 16000 miles.

Removing the drain plug on the pan and changing the toilet paper roll on a 4X4 requires about 8 litres of fluid... whatever that is in imperial...

Do you mean to flush rather "back-flush" as was written?

Back flushing is not good as dirt or "stuff" can get into places it should not.

My dealer does not recommend using any "flush additives".. since the Mercon SP is great stuff and should not have anything mixed with it... before or after the flush (if done on time... every 30,000 miles.

I flush every 25,000 miles (ahead of schedule which is 30,000) and change the ext. filter each time. I also had the internal pan filter done at 50,000 miles just to see what the pan looked like... and it looked good.
