I had to pull a large trailer today off the highway w/ broke axels(NOT MINE!) and used 4Wlow to do it. Problem is... now it will not shift out. Start, stop, off ,on forward, reverse.... nothing.
This happend once before and while I was parked on a silghtly inclined driveway, and calling everyone I know.. it fixed itself???
Am I not wearing my hat right? I'm gona go out after the rain and see if it has fixed itself again.
I'm using the electric switch on the dash per the manual. I don't use it often as the roads at the hunt club are great. Just regular 4x4 to pull large boats out of the river every so often.
Is it punnishing me!
Thanks

my 00 has done that also. does yours have the electric switch on the dash with auto or manual hubs? also mine now won't lock into 4 low and does not lock unless I'm moving. What happen to the old manual shift. these new units aren't for sh___t?
I don't know what the deal is, some electrical sequence, but once in a while mine does it. This is what I do to get it in or out of 4lo. 2wd to 4lo: turn to 4wd wait for light, then turn to 4lo. Most the time I am stopped, sometimes it engages, others, have to switch back to 4wd, put in P or N, then switch to 4lo. Most times it goes in then. Same thing to come out. Switch to 4wd, wait, if doesn't engage lo, then switch back to 4 lo then lever to P or N and back to 4wd. Wait for it to disengage. Then to 2wd. I haven't had any problems going in and out of 4wd, just seems if you try to go to 4lo all at once, it ignores it as it is not in 4wd, but then it also ignores the 4wd as it is supposed to be in 4lo. Anyway, that is my thoughts and it gets it in and out. Patience seems to be the trick here.
Mine won't shift into or out of 4LO unless the trans in in neutral. Don't know if that's normal or not, but that's the trick to mine - neutral.
Also had someone mention to me once that a vaccum leak could cause some problems with the 4WD system engaging/not-engaging. But I thought it was all electronic solenoids on the ESOF systems.
I will double check in the morning, but I think mine requires neutral and brake pedal applied. When I first got it I struggled to get it into 4 low, finally stopped to read the book and I think I ended up doing neutral/brake pedal. I have the ESOF. I was rolling slowly across a field and couldn't get it to go from 4 Hi to 4 low. I tried stopping, neutral roll, stopped neutral. Seriously, I think the brake pedal applied was the key.
Same here. Have it in 4wd high, stop the truck, shift to neutral while having foot on brake, then turn selector switch to 4wd low. To take it out of 4wd low, stop the truck, shift to neutral while having foot on brake, then turn selector switch to 4wd high and drive away. It will work every time. I had to go back and read the book and get it stuck in my head how to do it back when my truck was new. Now it is second nature to do it.

I did it by the book but it still stuck in 4 lo, didn't come out until I turned the hubs to lock and back. I realize this procedure shouldn't have to be done. Thought mine might have been a vac leak but hubs held vacuum on both sides when I tested them. I am a firm believer that you have to shift into and out of 4wd and 4 lo at least once a month to keep things free and working properly. I hadn't been doing that and it bit me.
