1998 exp AC problem

1998 exp AC problem

Well, ac wasn't blowing very cold so I bought one of those advanced auto kits and recharged it, thought that fixed the problem.

PS - it wasn't empty, just low.

Now, the cold air comes and goes. With the hood up I can hear the condensor come on and off about every 5 seconds or so.

What do you think the problem is? Clutch? How hard is that to fix?

More than likely you have a leak on your system and the charge is low causing the compressor to cycle on and off.

Charge is still too low.

Get real guages or refer it to a pro.

wojowojo16, There is a low pressure cutout switch in the system. Its purpose is to not allow the compressor to run unless there is enough pressure in the system. When the pressure is low, it disengages the clutch for the compressor. Your system is working the way its designed to. The problem is you have a leak SOMEWHERE in your system. The leak needs to be found and repaired before you add more refrigerant to the system. Otherwise you will always be adding refrigerant to the system to keep the system working. Thats not a good thing because eventually it will lead to more costly repairs. Think of it as a tire that has a slow leak. As long as you don't fix the leak, you will always be adding air to the tire until you have the leak repaired. Sorry for the long response.

Appreciate the long response...guess I should get the leak fixed.
