Yes I installed them. They are very easy to install. I have the digital climate control and it has a button to turn the heat on for them (It would also be the same button for the rear defrost, I don't have). It has a time delay or a thermostat control, Not sure which but it dose turn it's self off. They don't stay on all the time. Here is the switch in the circle. I sold my oem mirrors on ebay and got 200 for one and 150 for the other plus the shipping cost. Which was 25 dollars more than I paid for these TT mirrors.

Smile That is COMPLETELY wrong.

We just purchased a '06 F150 4x4 Supercrew XLT with a 5.4, 3.55 ltd.slip axle, and trailer towing package. The main purpose of this purchase was to haul our new 29' (6500lb dry weight) travel trailer at least 2 - 3x per year. Much research was done, and I don't believe everything salespeople tell me. But I do have it in writing that my truck's max. towing capacity is 9200 lbs. It is in the '06 Ford 150 brochure on page 20, bottom left. Ford puts this info in their brochures, so I am secure in knowing my truck will haul my trailer.

What size wheels do you have? I have a 5.4l 3.73 gears and 18 inch wheels. My towing cap is either 8200 or 8800, I'm not sure how your would be more than mine with only 3.55 gears. I do know bigger wheels do derate the max towing capacity. The 9500 or 9900lb Ford rates there trucks at for a max rating was on 4.10 or 4.11 gears, wichever ones Ford has.

Red face Towing with 5.4

Tires are 17's. Just took delivery of new truck today, and they underlined in the brochure where it states 9200 lbs towing capacity. The info I have been reading here has left me with questions and I am calling the dealership here in Alberta Canada and am going to ask what my truck has that makes the towing capacity rate 9200 lbs. By all accounts, with a 3.55 it should be around the 8200??

The key here is the wheel base your truck has.....

138.5" wheelbase 5.4l, 4x4 SCREW w/3.55 w/17" tires is 8200. The 9200 rating is for the same wheel base 4x4, screw w/17" tires with a 3.73 rear end.

150.5 wheelbase 5.4l, 4x4 SCREW w/3.55 w/ 17" tires is 8100. Same with a 3.73 is 9100.

You have to take all the factors into account when looking at the max towing cap.

What is the wheelbase of your truck?

As I posted before, the bigger problem will be the trailer's tongue weight. Load up the new truck with your gear and family as it would be for the trip, and weigh it. Subtract that from the truck's GVW, and see how much load capacity you have left over for the tongue weight.

that and combined vehicle trailer weight can't be over 15000 lbs with the 3.73's that includes all passengers and gear in the truck. It is a balancing act. you can't go over the gvw, or max weight, or tongue weight. it sounds like your alright with what you have edandsam... it may be close but there is some saftey fudge factor.

You are absolutely on the money. My wheelbase is 138.5 so towing capacity is only 8200 lbs. As I stated last evening, I called my Ford dealership this morning and raised hell. They are now going to exchange my new truck for another new truck that has the 3.73. It also has a few more bells and whistles, so they are making it worth my while.....and all this before my husband even got out of bed this morning.

That is truely outstanding. If your dealer was not so far from Florida, I be doing business with 'em too!

Thx and our truck looks somewhat like yours minus the beautiful chrome wheels and Harley Badge. We got white to go with our trailer.

The nice part about living in Alberta is the availability of roadside scales where you can actually confirm weights. In spite of your concern with towing capacity, your first concern ought to be with the Gross Vehicle Weight as it is quite easily exceeded with what might appear to be a normal load. If at all possible, recognizing that winter is here, you need to hook up your trailer and find a scale to check actual weight.

Check out my gallery to see my truck on the scale at High Level, AB and over the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating without even towing anything.

My 2 cents...

GVW
04 fx4 screw tow pakage, 3.73, super chips tow program, 93 gas, bfr 285/65/18 E @60psi, 2.5" daystar

me and a full tank...6340 truck stop scale weight
Apprx weights:
3 friends.....650
1 side box smoker.....120
1 cast iron fire pit....50
fire wood.....100
3 20lb propane tanks....80
forced air heater....30
generator.....100
9 gal gas and can.....56
= 1186lbs+truck=7526

29 Conquest TT.....7340 dry
54 gal H2O.....450
32" TV....120
5 coolers , loaded....200
8 folding chairs....40
2 canopys.....100
directvdish and reciever....20
bedding, tools, etc....100
=8370

total CGVW=15896
uH...just a little over!!!!
weight distr. hitch and prodigy controler

As stated eariler, tows like a champ to about 60mph works a little but will hold 80 with the cruise on and o/d off, slowed to about 70-75 up hill. Temps stayed cool. About 250 miles round trip. Pulls off the line very well. Ok maybe not like a powerstroke, but for 5.4 gas burner I could not ask for more. No trouble keeping pace with trafic on I85 in Atlanta. Only minor sway when passing a big rig(we did not put the sway control on).

I would not want to tow this much on a daily basis, but once or twice a year, no problem.

Oh yeah....8.5mpg
