I have a 2002 explorer, all power options. I had to change out the motor today, but when I did, all the cables came undone and now I cant get the cables to fit back on the motor spool......any1 know of a trick i can do to get the spool back on there and inside the cover?????? Please help, I got tomorrow to fix it until i leave out of town for months !!!
Ok, me again.........I got all the cables back on track and all where they should be...BUT(always a but) the spool that the cables wrap around that fits on the actualy power window motor, I cant get the spool to completely get back in the cover that covers it on the power window motor. 2 cables, one coming from the bottom of the door and one coming from the top of the door, there are spring ends on them(this is hard to explain) I just cant get enough cable to fit the spool back in that cover so I can bolt the motor back on. If i had like an inch more of cable, it would fit, but it has to be a tight fit...i dont know how to get it back in that cover, there has to be some sort of trick or something???
PLEASE help me out, I cant sleep, its bothering me insanely!!! If you have a hard time understanding what i described, ask me questions, and i'll try to further explain, im so close to getting this done!! HELP !!!!
once the spool is out of the regulator, is it even possible to put it back in??? Someone told me you have to buy the whole regulator setup w/ the power motor allready on it.....true....anyone..????
You might try taping the glass up in fully raised position and remove the guide and cable assembly. That way you could reinstall the cables more easily.
I replaced the motor on my 2002 XLT. That was on the driver side rear door. The window stayed up after I removed the motor bolts and it was easy installing the new motor. But I remember wondering what would happen if the cables came undone.
I've seen the frames and cables sold separately on eBay. My front doors are starting to show signs of loose cables, as the glass seems to rock in the slot.
Can the cable length be adjusted? I might need to do that?
If you look close at the photo, it shows an adjustment screw (just above where the motor goes) for tightening the cable. I think you need to remove the winder assemby so you can have a better look.
Cant really tell if thats an adjuster or not, kinda looks like one....mine doesnt have that though. I couldnt find anything that would adjust the cable on my 2002. I just went ahead and bought the whole regulator setup and going to put that in tomorrow. I couldnt find any info anywhere on the web and the Ford dealership wouldnt help me out at all, they would just say bring it in, WE'LL have to look at it....of course its gonna cost you a little bit though.
Gotta love Ford dealerships and their engineers!!!
