I am in the process of putting a 71 429 cid in my 77 F150 and just wanted to ask if anyone on FTE has a set full length headers they want to sell or know where I can get a set to fit. I have removed the air/heater box and blocked the hole off for extra clearance and I am also removing the front fuel tank to give more room for headers and shorty duals. If anyone can help me out please reply asap.
Get L&L's for sure. I have the fender well exit headers on my 77 and they are awesome. It says you need a body lift but you don't, I had to slightly trim my inner fender wells. With the fender well headers you don't have to get exhaust made/bent for it because everything is on the outside of the frame you just bolt up straight pipe and mufflers, no bending required.
The truck is a 2wd. As far as the fenderwell headers go for racing in stock or trophy class the exhaust has to be run under the truck in the stock location, whether it be single or duals.
You could try "Stans Headers", it's a tri-y design that fits in the frame rails and very well built. He carries a set for 2wd and you can order your choice of flange thickness. Good people to deal with and excellent fit, in my case it was 4wd.
Do you have a web address for " Stan's Headers" so I can contact them, I need to hurry up a little, the races are on Sept 10 and I havent evnen put the motor or trans in the truck yet. I just picked the tranny up today from the tranny shop. I'm hoping to get most of it together this weekend.
