Power Steering System Flush
Just flushed out the power steering system on car, total time 1.2 hours.
5 quarts of type F transmission fluid was used for the flush and refill.
Does anyone flush their power steering system?
What was the mileage? Was there an improvement in the power steering system?

Whenever you open the PS system to replace a component or flush it like you have done always install a filter in the return line like the following:
Wix Transmission/PS Filter
===================
Wix transmission/PS filter #58964
Ford equivalent filter kit #XC3Z-7B155-AA
Ford filter alone #XC3P-7B155-BA
200 psi working, pressure relieved, magnetic
change yearly or 12000 miles
If you do not install a filter the particles produced when opening the system connections will destroy the PS pump and other system parts.

I always remove the rubber power steering return line, thus eliminating the chance of particles entering system.
It does seem like not very many people (less than 1 percent) flush out their power steering system.
I am surprise it is not included as part of the maintenance of vehicles. Power steering parts are very expensive.
Every time I have flushed out the system, it prolongs the life of the PS parts, quites down the pump, and every thing turns so much smoother.
The filter is definitely a good upgrade.

I voted no because it was 120,000 miles and not a true flush. It was the turkey baster method of removing fluid from the pump and replacing it several times over a month until the fluid was clear. No difference in noise or performance was noted, but there were no problems to begin with.
