I have finished my album. Check out my Gallery. Tell me what you think and be honest. I know she needs work and I'm just getting started. The sad thing is that I can't do a completed restore. Slow cash flow. If anyone sees something I need to work on please shoot me a message or just reply on this thread.
She's a beuty don't ever be ashamed to drive her. I believe it is always good for folks around you to remember what you started with. One step at a time. Pick a panel, strip it, primer it, do the next. Don't worry if some light rust starts poking through cause when you get to the last panel you sand the whole thing and then prime and paint. That cover prime as you work comes off real easy. If you look in my gallery that primer on the door and top is 4 year old rattle can.
I have the front end taken apart. Hood, fenders, inner fenders, grille, radiator support, everything on the front end is off and i'm working one peice at a time till thats finished. Then we're (me and my fater-in-law) will work on the cab or the beds. The bed on it now is a short styleside and I have a stepside down in Somerset. I'm fixing them both up and will switch them out at least once or twice a year just for fun.
Oh I'm not ashamed ... my wife is, she wont ride in it till it's all fixed up. I'd drive it every day if I could but I really can't do a lot of work like I want if I'm driving it. when I first got the truck I drove it ot everyone's house I could think of. Even though it's ugly she has a lot of potenial and plus she's a Ford and thats praise enough.
Beauty old Ford! Drive it and fix what needs fixing. Looks to have little rust and is really complete. I'd do the dual master cylinder with booster and leave it drum/drum. Other than that maybe a floor mat and horn button. Then drive it every day!
Very nice rig Mater64 what colour you gona paint her? I would go with a 1999 F150 red its a nice rich deep red, urathane. The engine looks good to. I wish I had a 6 banger the cost of fuel is insane right now. Good luck with her.
Well I was thinking of painting her midnight pearl blue or midnight blue w/ metallic. I think red is kinda over done. I see a lot of older cars and truck painted some sort of red. (no offence, it is a good suggestion)
I did think about dropping a 302 in but like you said with gas prices on the up & up, I'll keep the 6.
I wanted midnight blue metallic for my '70 until I saw the price. Then dad showed me a '78 Ford dark blue poly which looks good (just bigger flakes), and costs much less. We've got the paint but it's still in the can heh.
Yeah I've some of the trucks guy on this forum are working on. By looking at the pictures I think I'm pretty lucky to have been given a truck that has very little to no rust and the engine and tranny both work very well. I mean I still have a solid floor board LOL.
yea, sounds like you have one heck of a project truck, especially low in rust, thats great.
a good foundation can be priceless in this hobby. Im sure it will turn out great for you. just be sure and keep us posted, its awesome watching progress in progress.
Keep you some rubbing alcohol, tape, and a punching bag handy. this way when the wrench slipps, you can rub the alcohol on it, tape it up, then punch the bag a couple of times so you feel better..lol
Actually i do have some pics of my front end dismantaled I need to add to my gallery (I think I'll do that tomorrow.)
Ummmm...
Alcohol, tape, and a punching bag. I'll have to pick those up soon. I could have used them a few times now. LOL Had one so bad it took me off the project for a day. every time I went to make a fist it would break open and it hurt so bad I thought I broke something my whole hand was brused. I should have taken pics of that.
lol...i still have paint in my middle finger from a 59 f100 I had it also made a mark parallel to the chip mark. how: broke a bolt, and it caused me to puch a damaged area of the truck.
the pulley on my 65 bit me when I was adjusting my timing. the wrench slipped out of my hand, the wrench hit the belt/pulley/fan, something down there, caused it to somehow knock my fist down into the pulley, luckily on the outside of the pulley. it bit me very close to my paint chip..it also made parallel marks..now I have matching scars on the same finger close to each other, both from old ford trucks.....
coincidence?????...lol
