Removing Rear View Mirror Bracket from Windshield
I need to replace the rear view mirror on my 71 F-250. The mirror proper is secured--with a small Allen bolt--to a bracket that has been glued onto the windshield. I'm not able to find a new mirror that will fit into the existing bracket. So, what is the safest/best way to remove the old bracket (obviously, I don't want to risk cracking the windshield)?

i had the same trouble on the 69 f250, i took a rag and soaked it with nail polish remover ,then i tied it around the mount. keeping it wet for awhile ,then i took a razor blade and started working it loose. the acidtone in the nail polish remover loosin the glue and the mount came off.

When I first put my rearview on, I put the bracket on upside down and let the glue dry. Then stupid me took a pair of pliars and pulled it off. A hunk of windshield came out with it. It didn't crack though so I just moved it down the windshield slightly.
