Driver seat broke = failed inspection

Driver seat broke = failed inspection
My driver seat has no support on the right shoulder so it failed. I went to the salvage yard & all the bronco seats were broke as well. So it seems to me this is a common problem. My question is ahs anyone torn into one of these seats & welded in a bracket of some sort to fix this?

What exactly is broken? If it's the metal inside that connects at the hinge point, it may just be a matter of taking the seat apart and repairing the frame inside the seat, or it could be the hinge point that requires repair. I've never noticed a problem with this in my '87. Hope this helps.

I took mine apart after removing the back from the seat. on my 88 EB there were two rods that tighten the front of the seat cover. it took 4 hogrings to secure the rods. the cover was pretty easy to get off, then the cushion comes forward off the frame, which is in two pieces spot welded together. Half of the welds had broken and there was enough material to re weld them together. The shop manual had a diagram of the seat to work from. Not too difficult.

I should have included this in my previous post, but, the 92 and newer Explorer, possibly the 91, have a different seat back frame. The 91 is a direct bolt in, the 92 on, you will have to change the tracks out.
But the seat back frame is a lot stronger and I believe it will bolt directly to your seat frame.
I'll post a pick when it quits raining.
