How do!
Noticed I was down 2Qts oil about 4 months ago. Oil change 3 weeks ago and down 2 again. No leaks or drips or oil inside or out. I've used synthetic oil for last 140k of the origianl 190k. No engine repair work ever. Some loss of power on acceleration and incline. What's the first move: compression check? Someone suggested I change out the synthetic for a Havoline or Rotella oil.

a common problem with my 91 5.0 is oil leakage at the valve cover gaskets as they usually give out too early. It might not be making all the way down yet
190K? I'd be surprized that it didn't use some oil, and leak a little too. The rings and valve guides should be showing their age. Run a leak down dry and then wet. Look for oil residue on the plugs. 200K is about due for a total rebuild.
You aren't really waiting until your 2 quarts low to put the oil in are you? Time to start checking your oil more regularly. If your changing oil at 3000 miles 2 quarts isn't terrible. Not great either. If your going 5-6000 miles then 2 quarts ins't bad.
No- check the oil weekly. Diagnosed yesterday as slight leak with intake manifold gasket. This replacement job is out of my skill level. Do I want to have it done now? If I wait am I heading for trouble?? Finally- if done professionally, what am I lookingt at laborwise; 2-3 hours??
