Missing when Idling
I noticed earlier in the week that when I put my 2002 Ford Ranger in park the oil pressure gauge "jumped" off center about 1/8 an inch and wiggled back and forth. I tried some troubleshooting. When I fast idled the truck and when reaching 3000 or > RPM the truck begins to miss and almost backfire. There is no smoke I do not notice any problems when driving. I took it to Auto Zone and there were no problem codes detected.
Any ideas?
There is a rev limiter when your truck is in "park". It will kick in about 3K RPMs, sounds like you found it!!! As far as your oil pressure gauge, it sounds like your sending unit "switch" is going bad. Just remember, it's an "idiot light" type of gauge, not showing any actual flucuations in oil pressure.
