Ranger 2.3 performance help

I have a 86 2.3 Ranger and am looking for cheap upgrades.I have heard of taking parts from Mustang 2.3's and turbo 2.3's,but what parts are interchangable? Also are there any tricks to get more hp out of the stock motor?Any info or suggestions would be great.

Ponies cost money so it's time to move past the word cheap. Now, if I had a 21 year old Ranger I would do a compression test to determine engine health then a tune up. Think hard and long if the compression test is not favorable. After that, I would probably realize that putting $ into something 21 years old would not have a payback potential at all when I went to sell it (ie, very poor investment), so I would look into a 4.0 Ranger of a newer model year. Engine displacement is one of the fastest ways to get more ponies.

The biggest bang for the buck is a turbo out of a T-bird, Merkur, Mustang, or Cougar. It is a bolt in. You can usually get a donor car for very little money if you look around a little. It gets very good economy, and will run circles around some of the bigger engines. jd
