Well I knew things were going too easily.... Forgot to put the plate on under the water pump and while removing the bolts one of the longs ones got stripped. I really hate the thought of pulling the balance and timing cover again, any chance their is a LONG tap on the market?? All of mine are only 3" or so...
The issue with blind tapping like that is the metal shavings. Not to mention what happens if you snap the tap in the process? Take the extra 30 minutes to ensure the job is done right the first time. Otherwise you will end up taking it off again a few miles later.
I'm not really too concerned about the shavings, I've got a extension magnet that I already took all the filings out with, should work just the same with the shavings. Found a tap, just got to wait for it to arrive. I don't thing the threads are stripped, just crossed....
air harley - you're still around? You haven't hit the ground and the sound was splat, yet?..... good!! How are you liking the Lincoln Engine I sold you? Blown it up yet? whah ha ha ha ha..... I've been reduced to a sniffling bald man driving a fricking 1.6 liter chevette due to gas prices in Georgia!! I have to pull off the road to let people by me!! The chevette uses about 2.5 - 3 gallons a day compared to Harrison's 10-12 gallons.....
Harrison is still doing great - it takes $40.00 a day to run him... that's just about my salary for a day.
You might try using a airblower with a pice of 1/8 or simular tubing as a extenson to remove the shavings. Just stick into the hole all the way before you try to blow out the shavings that way you are geting the air behind the shavings. I would caution you to use eye protecton and I take and fold a shop cloth around the tube so it dosen't blow all over you.
Good luck
