Does your front axle have the enclosed knuckles? If so, this is easier than it looks. If not, ignore the rest of this post. Dana axles with enclosed knuckles used 'trunion bearings'. All they are is a pair of tapered bearings and cones. The bearings are located under the metal cover plates where you would think 'king pins' would be located. The only tricky part is that they have to be shimmed for preload. But, I've gotten by just making sure that I got Timken bearings to replace the originals and put it back together with the original shims in the original places.
A quick way to check the condition of the bearings is to jack up the truck under the axle housing and try and move the wheel up and down. There should be zero slop at the trunion bearings (king pins). Typically what happens is the felt seals wear out allowing lube out and dirt and moisture into the joint. The trunion bearings are lubed by whatever is or is not in the joint. A new set of felts (seals) are probably needed also. You may have to grind, sand, polish the bells on the axle housing to get them to seal.
Holler if you have any other questions.
Adios,
Brett
