Look under the truck, is the catalyctic coverter still there? You will probably have a smog pump, and few hundred yards of vacumn tubing securing the engine into the truck as well. You may even find several hoses that don't go anywhere, and have just been plugged with screws or bolts. Even stranger you won't find any place that you could connect them too if you wanted. If it looks like someone threw up black spaghetti on your motor, you smog crap is probably still there.

There should be an underhood sticker on the radiator support with a vacuum/emissions equipment diagram. Just follow the diagram and you should find each component. If the sticker says catalyst, you should have a catalytic converter in the exhaust system (I think all '83 302 engines for U.S. have catalytic converters).
