Okay here comes the dumb question of the day. I have to replace the multi-function switch and lock cylinder on my 93 supercab, but I can't figure out how to get the horn pad off the steering wheel so I can pull the whole mess. I know it has to come off some how but I don't want to go tearing things up. Please help a Lost Pup in high weeds.
Pull it straight out. I asked the same question a few months ago. No prying, just slide it straight towards your chest as you're sitting in the driver's seat.
is that all you do on my 95 there were two scews in the back with little covers. or do you mean after you removed the screws? mostlikely a dumb question.
For clarification: mine does NOT have an airbag. Some would say that fiddling with a bagged steering wheel is a no-no. I've never had a Ford with one, and had no reason to mess with the one in my Dodge Caravan.
I have had tons of bags in SHOs we would take off the steering wheel and air bag on our parts car then lay it face down and conect about 100 feet of wire. then hook the wire to a betery and it will lunch the wheel well over a house. thats all I have ever done with an air bag.. I looked at my truck and it must have been my SHOs i was thinking of.
sorry dan
A buddy of mine used to work in a Chrysler dealership. There was a recall for the airbags in some cars and the techs would turn these jobs out in half the time scheduled by skipping certain steps in the process like disconnecting the battery. One tech would unbolt the old airbag from the wheel and lay it in his lap while switching over the connections. While doing this on one job, he crossed the connections and set off the bag in his lap giving an all new meaning to the term split shot.
I have one of it going off at night in the back of a junk taurus. There was a bucket over it but you really cant see much because it is dark. but the first one had a steering wheel on it ant it went clear over our house. the one in the car is just the bag sitting in the back. That is how i have taken them out all the time. I never relized that they could go off. I am the kid that allways strips the cars and repairs the ones we keep so i have delt alot with airbags in SHOs. I think i will disconect the battery before i do another.
I replaced the clock spring on my 97 dodge caravan. It wasn't bad getting past the air bag. Most important procedure is to disconnect the battery. Then it won't mgo of at all. Then unce you got everyhting reassembled, reconnect the battery with no one in the car. Safest way. But I would like to see a video of one launching a steering wheel over a house.
