voltage question
i didnt give enough information with my question. its a 1989 ford f150 2wd with a 4.9l. im not getting any power from the relay (starter) to the starter. the starter is ok and ive put 2 other relays, one new, on the truck. while checking the wire to the relay from the ingition the test light is dim and the voltage is around 5.8volts. is that the right amount or should it be higher?

Voltage to the relay should be 12vdc from the ignition. Most relays ground thru one of the mounting screws. Make sure it is solid. Jumper from the battery positive to the small start terminal and see of the starter spins.
