Does anyone know if the EDIS system on the 2.5L (1998) work like the 3.0 and 4.0's that use reverse polarity? I want to change plugs and would like to know if I need to spend the extra on the double platinums.
Yes. Ford DIS & EDIS uses the "waste spark" system in most engines. The Ford Lima engines, 2.3L and 2.5 OHC have two plugs per cylinder, where the others have a single plug per cylinder. jd
I think I will spend the extra and money and get the double platinum plugs. After looking were they are located, I won't want to do this for a long time, and with double platinums I shouldn't. I pulled one plug to see what they looked like and I tore the boot off the wire just getting it off. So time for new wires also. At 124K it is probably time for that any way.
Funny thing.....I am doing this same thing now on a '98 2.5.
Yes on Moto platniun, I have had good luck (100K). I am taking out some Bosch with 50k on them, not so good.
The real funny part is mine has aprox 225k on it with orig wires (they are dated, 1998).
I thought this time I would do the wires too, I checked the resistance on them and the OLD wires have less resistance than the NEW Motocraft wires???
Go figure.
Well changing plugs on the driver's side is a real pain. All together I ended up having 5 wires pull out of the boots. The plugs that I replace were Autolite Platinum. I checked the gap on a few .052-.059. While I was dirty and struggling with hard to reach parts I replaced the PCV valve. Also cleaned MAF sensor, and changed the fuel filter.
Truck runs good, I had noticed that when taking off or on some shifts I heard pinging, now that is gone. Now I just need to figure out the clunking noise from the front end.
