1978 F-100 for work

I am looking at obtaining a 1978 F-100, 300CI for use for hauling wood, general use around the little farm. It has a 3 speed manual tranny. I do not know the rear end ratio. Any ideas as to how useful such a truck is for that type of work and any modifications I should make. I add that in NC there are no emissions inspections for trucks of that age for farm use.

The 300I6 will do you good on a small farm for many years. No need for performance mods. Keep your money for clean oil, filters and wear items, and don't Mickey Mouse it up with cheap shots and bailing wire. Make it right. Treat it right.
