wiper problem

i've got a 1993 f250. a few times i've had to jiggle the multifunction switch to make the wipers run. the last 2 times its rained they've quit all together, the second time on the interstate. not good to say the least, it was raining pretty hard.

anyway, i'm figuring i need a new multifunction switch. advance auto parts has one for $63, i'm sure thats half of the ford price so i'm ok with that.

will i have to remove the steering wheel to replace the switch? the truck has tilt wheel if that makes any difference.

No you shouldnt have to remove the steering wheel. Before you replace it they tend to get goobered up with debree. just take off the cap on the end and look inside, it might just need junk cleaned out. Mine was like that until I cleaned it out. There is a cap on the end of the level, pop it out then there should bne a screw if i remember right.

I tried cleaning the switch but that didn't help. So i got a new switch, that didn't fix it either.

I removed the wiper control module and put it into a buddy's truck and it worked fine. I didn't really think that would be bad but it was so easy to remove and check I figured what the heck.

I returned the multifunction switch to the store and got a new wiper motor. Problem solved.
