I have looked at a couple of online VIN decoders and can't find a listing for a body style E-81. The truck is a 1964 F-250 4x4. If someone could help me out I would really appreciate it.
Post your VIN here, and we can give you some of the information. Best bet is to post all the information from the warranty tag, assuming it is original, and we can do even better. Normally, about all you'll get from the VIN is the body type and month of manufacture.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-May-02 AT 08:21 AM (EST)]The VIN # is F26CR503121
F26 = F 250 Series
C = 292 Medium Duty V8 2v w/ 330 hp@ 3800 rpm
R = San Jose Plant
503121 = February 1964
WB 120 = 120" wheel base
COLOR W = I cannot find a color code W in my book for '64. W only shows up for '65/'66 which is Medium Blue. (And then W turned yellow in '68 - go figure!)
MODEL F260 = 4x4 of the 250
BODY E-81 = 81 means full cab, not sure what the E means.
TRANS F = Synchronized Warner T-89A 4 speed
AXLE B4 = Locking, 4.56 (5.2M) Spicer 60
Thanks, I had most of the info but it's nice to have someone back up what I found out. I found that the M is a white color they had out that year. I still can't find anything on the body being listed as E-81. One thing is that it's a 1964 and seems to have come with a style of bed found on a 1963, was this common? If it wasn't done at the factory, it would have been done by the dealer.
Your bed is probally the original one, which was the 57-60 style. The 4x4 didn't use the new style 64-65 bed until 1966 due to the wheel base of the 61-65 4x4.
I found out what the "E" means: It is your Interior Trim Scheme, which in this case, is Red Vinyl and Woven Plastic. The 81 stands for closed or conventional cab. (Doesn't refer to Custom vs Standard, it refers to the fact it is completely enclosed, doesn't tilt, isn't extended, etc.)

How about a list of the Trim option here. I think the Custom Cab and Ranger package would be designated with the body code also.
For example, mine is a "381" body code and I am not sure if it was a custom cab since all of the holes for the trim and what not are there but filled with bondo.
In my 65 manual, the 3 indicates "green vinyl". compared to C and L which say "green woven plastic and green vinyl w/Foam cushion".
Wonder what the difference is between C and L?
