I own a 2003 F-150 XLT Supercrew 4.6 with 38000 miles.
The day before yesterday while driving home my service engine light came on, my OD light started flashing at the end of the selector, my A/C clutch stopped and It appears that I'm locked in second gear.
I took it to a mechanic friend, he plugged in and got 12 codes, He replaced (twice) a 15 amp fuse under the hood and the fuse keep blowing when turning on the key. He said it appeared to have a dead short. After messing around with the transmission wiring harness and replacing the 15 amp fuse again everything went back to normal and he cleared all the codes. He drove the truck around and everthing appeared to be working, He never could find the short and wasn't sure what made it quite blowing fuses. I went to pick up the vehicle and before I left the parking lot all the problems came back.
Has anyone ever heard of or ever had this problem...
heres my advice, put a 20amp fuse in and drive it over to the dealer and trade it because ur gonna burn up alot of $$$$$$$ if its buried in the wiring somewhere
or if u wwanted to find the problem in a hurry put a 40 in there and watch where it smokes...... you only get one chance tho...lol one more thing dont take my advice
You said there were 12 codes could you tell us what they were? You could have anything from a bad solinoid, switch, or a short in the gearshift lever wires. After replacement of fuses, as long as the truck is in park does the fuse blow?or do the pop when the gear shift is put in gear? How about in park, and press the brake like you were going to put the truck in gear?
Check the wiring to the transmission, on the passenger's side of the truck, to see if it's burned on the exhaust. Also check it on the driver's side of the truck, under the floor.
