'64 4X4 windshield wiper question...
The driver side wiper slaps the bottom of the windshield upon completion of its righthand stroke. Passenger side is OK and yes I do have the stock wiper length. What is the deal ! This slapping sound is driving me crazy...

Three causes to this problem:
1. The shaft through the cowling is worn out. It is called the windshield wiper transmission. I got 2 NOS for $15 ea from Macs (http://www.macsautoparts.com) back in '98.
2. The linkage arms between the transmission and the wiper motor are wallered out where the linkage bearing are, or the rubber has shrunk, or the bearing itself has wallered out, or a combination, depending on the part you have.
3. The shaft on the motor is worn down, or the linkage hole is wallered out, etc etc.
Only new, not used parts will fix this.

When the wipers are turned off, check and see if there is alot of moovement in the bad side. It should be easy to go under dash and see what moves or is worn when someone on the outside moves the wiper arm. Just a thought, the 67-72 wiper motors, etc.. are not a direct swap to the 61-66, but some parts may be interchangeable. If one side is worn, the other is probally close to the same condition!
