Oxygen Sensor Confusion - 1996
Check engine light came on so I stopped in and visisted a friend who works at a ford dealership. He read the code and said the "Front passenger side Oxygen sensor was slow to respond."
He said there should be 4 oxygen sensors and my prob was the front right one.
Just looked on Autozone's website and they only list two. One in pipe after the cat and the other in the manifold on passenger side under engine cover in the seating area.
What's up? I will guess it's the front one????
Also, just had a new flex pipe and exhaust pipe put on a day earlier by a good muffler shop.
The van is fairly new to me, only really "used" it about 3 days so far.
If it was mine I'd R&R both 02 sensors on GP. Do you know how long it ran with a leak in exhaust flex, after your caty-conv? if it was more than a couple days I'd not screw around. You know with digital management Garbage In = Garbage Out, RIGHT?
That's one of surest ways I know to waste a perfectly good set of up & downstream oxy sensors. Without system being closed, temps can get way out of whack on reburn induced by the presence of atmosphere where the sys is supposed to be closed.
I'd also suggest you dump your codes after you install the new sensors, then go for a 40 minute, variable ride, a little highway a little traffic and as little idling as possible.
FBp
they damage lots of O2 sensors, damage to wiring, greasy fingers on sensor tip while out for pipe replacement, bang and physically damage sensor with tools or pipe
most exhaust system surgeons get paid by commission so faster is better, NOT
