Smile Excursion Problems

I just became the owner of a 2001 Excursion, and about 3 weeks after I purchased it the info center (Direction, Milage, etc) quit working, It will work some times but most of the time it will not, I was told it would cost around $100.00 to get it put on the computer to find the short. Has anyone experianced this? and does anyone have any idea what might be the problem. This is my first FORD, I have always drove a Dodge.

Thanks Dawn

this is the expedition forum, might have better luck finding answers in the excursion forum

sounds like a simple short to me, if you can follow the power lines to/from the computer maybe you can find the problem.

I think he cross-posted and this thread was moved here. His other (duplicate) post is a few down the page.

If it's intermittant, start by checking the grounds. Does bumping it affect it?
