I gotta new 06 250 5.4l this thing is sweet but I would really like to get some more horses out of her. I was thinking about putting a chip in but I am nervous about doin that and mess it up some how. It is one stock except for exhaust now i wanna put on a cold air intake but cant find any anywere yet it has 4:10s in the rear. But like i said i wanna but i want it to be able to take it trany wise and motor wise as well im not lookin for no 100hp range or anything like that a simple 50 or so would do fine just some more juice. Thanks for any info.
well u can start by installing a superchips programmer, cold air intake from airaid, throttle body spacer by helix, and an exhaust. this is wat i installed on my superduty and it does a hella lot better than before. for the exhaust i used i had the local muffler shop fab me one up. it cost around 200 bucks for a complete exhaust. and its really loud. these are my ideas. i have some more done to my truck but im tired so ill have to think about it. hope this helps. oh and ur not gonna hurt your engine by putting these on.
Save your bucks on all that stuff. 50 HP ain't gonna happen. You might see 5 - 15, but that's about it. If you want gains in that range, you need to look at some alternate forms of induction or nitrous (probably not the route that you were looking for).
Seriously! I had all the silly little bolt ons for my '04 and you know what you really get........more noise. Gets old real fast.
On the '05+ trucks, there isn't a whole lot you can do to squeeze any extra power out of that motor (short of turbo / super charger). You won't find those yet. The new intake, with the variable volume plenum isn't exactly friendly to adding those items. Ford did a good job of massaging every ounce of power out of the new V8 / V10's.
Take a look at your intake tract....it's about as straight and free of obstructions as you are gonna get. Besides, it's already capable of flowing more air than the engine can pull in.
I took all the programming off the truck, except the transmission settings. That was the only noticeable improvement out of all the things that were done. That was for the 4R100. If you have the TS tranny on that truck, hitting the tow / haul mode button will yield you the same results.
Not trying to turn you off to doing the mods, just trying to give you some of my "seat of the pants" impressions of what I got.

I have a 2006 F250 with the 5.4 and I added the Airaid intake. A tad better throttle response and a better sound but that's about it. I dont' think they make the spacer for the '05 and up. I'd like to change the exhaust but I've regretted doing that on vehicles in the past due to the increased sound. At times it sounds cool but going down the highway it can just be annoying. I have an SCT tuner already but the shops that I've spoken with about programming just want too much. Troyer quoted $250 for three tunes! I don't need three tunes just give me one that does what I want. At that cost, I'd be better off to sell the SCT I have and just buy a new one from Troyer that comes with the tunes...it just shouldn't be that way.
I think I've decided to just drive mine as is for now and put that extra money away for the next SD I buy which will probably be the PSD!

I had the Egde programmer for my 04 F150 w/ the 3v 5.4L and was quite impressed with it. Noticable gains and much improved throttle response. Also had a Diablo predator, it was a waste of money. Had an Airraid intake on it for awhile, took it off and sold it though. Sometimes the sound was nice and throaty in the cab, but as soon as I tried towing, the sound got to be a very annoying drone. Like was said earlier, if you want actual throw you back in the seat power like a 6.0L PSD, you need forced induction. If you want a noticable improvement in drivability and a bit more power, I recommend the Edge Evolution, should be able to find one for under $400.
EDIT: I just noticed this was my first post on FTE after lurking around for awhile.

That's what I was thinking 01_cursion. I'm sure glad I did... Of course that doesn't help his situation any. Save your money for a Supercharger or maybe new gears.
