My 04 is in the shop; check engine light and oil leak. S/A says it's an oil pan leak and bthey need to "lift" the engine to pull the pan? Has anyone heard of this? My truck has a 6.5 inch lift, would seem there is plenty of room to drop the pan. Any ideas?
Thanks...
I searched old posts and could not find any oil pan leaks either. Originally they thought it was the rear seal, previously they repaired/replaced the CPS seal/o-ring.
Thanks, I wasn't sure about the motor cross-member, couldn't remember where it was in relation to the oil pan.
I really like this dealership and there service department. Power Ford of Torrance. Very helpful.
Hey CanadaGuy or BowTieHatr, my local Ford Tech has tried to repair my glow plug harness three times and it is still leaking. The last time he put some silicon type sealer on it to try to stop it, is that a normal fix? What causes a perpetual leak like this? Poor machining? Wrong tolerances?
Thanks for your help and sorry if I am high jacking this thread.
Bed plate? Where the oil pan seals against the block? Also, we ran dye in the oil for about forty miles, that's what made the tech think it was/is the oil pan/bed plate seal, instead of the rear seal.
I had the same leak and they removed the engine and resealed everything. All is good now, and no more leaks. Sounds drastic, but it's sometimes the only way to go.
my brothers 6.0 oilpan rotted out at around 100,000 miles. He plows for the city and thought that all the salt and road deprise aided this failure. Hes a diesel mechanic and said the motor needed to be lifted to replace it. Oh yeah, just beyond warrenty.

I replace leaking glow plug harnesses. I've never had one leak twice.
