I want to put a 1961 econoline pick up body on a new short bed pick up frame with the least amount of work. Current wheel base is 90". Would aprreciate suggestions since this is my first attempt.
My first question would be: Why? My advice would be: Don't.
The Econoline is a unitized body, meaning it is made up of welded galvanized sheet metal. If you set it up on a frame, it will look like it was set up on a frame. If you cut the entire bottom out of it and construct a floor pan for it, you will have completed a whale of a first project. You realize that the driver sits over the front wheels in the Econ. There are no late model pickups with that configuration so you'd have to engineer the steering and controls also.
Yea, I'd think you'd have to start with a van frame, not a pickup and I agree with the post above, that's one whale of a first project. But, anythings do-able with enough time, patience and cubic dollars.
Sounds like you might be better off with a simpler starter project.
