i've inherited a 1975 F 600. it ran great last time i drove it 2 yrs ago. but now not so great. i want to give it a tune up but i dont know what engine it's got. i found some #'s on the block. the # on the drivers side is small and reads 6c22 or gc22, there are larger #'s on the passenger side of the block they read u4te or D4te. any help would be greatly appreciated in identifying this engine. oh yeah, its a gas engine.
Get the VIN, goto Mil1on's website and find the VIN decoder. This will tell you what engine was installed from the factory. Not sure though if the VIN decode works for F600 but it's worth a try.
6c22
That is a date casting
March 22nd/1976
D4TE is the design date and application for the part
1974 Truck Engine part
The casting date carries it over to March 1976 and your truck was probably built within 5 weeks of that (last 6 digits of Vin#)
Again, thanks. f600 is running great now and i am using it. it's a blast to drive. no real mufflers, just glaspacks. you hear it coming a mile away. steerings a little loose, but i can deal with that. thanks much. the other trucks i've got to work on now are a 67 gmc dumper with a huge V6 and a 66 or 7 chev spartan with seemingly the same 401M engine. I'll have to find a gm forum for those, but thanks again. JTS
