I have a '99 5spd, why are the pedal pads so expensive? I own a couple of vintage BMW's and the pedal pads for them are much cheaper. Both of mine need replacing, does anybody have a source for them at some reasonable price?

What do you consider to be too expensive? Perhaps buy them from your dealer under a business name (ie, lower prices for those that know how this game is played ).
Try Motormite/Doorman ... (aka: HELP! products)
I remember I had to replace my rubber pad on my Ranger's brake pedal shortly before I had traded it. I beleive I paid right less than 10bux for it.
Pep boys, the Help products line. $5 give or take.
Ya, you should drive bare foot, and put a sheet over the seats, and never drive in the rain, and don't park outside, heck, you might wear the darn thing out. Hell, you're running the damn wheels off it drivin.... ooops, dad rant flashback....
Got pads for my 1990 Ranger at LMCTruck.com for $5 each. They might have them for a 99 but then again I've never looked for pads for a "new" truck like yours. <grin>
I got my pad from autovation, thier aluminum, thier 70.00$, and thier awesome looking, grip is decent, and they should last along time. They don't clamp on over the rubber, thier bolted to the pedel it's self. Thier a quality product, more than you want to spend I'm sure, but they should last as long as the truck, and thay add a nice touch to the interior.
How do yall blow trough pedal pads? mine are original from 97. i can see replacing them for a cooler look (like d-plate aluminum). Boneyards are a good place to go, i suggest you pull them off of early model trucks like 93-97. they seem to last longer.
Usually from the Sand, Metal Shavings or somtimes Viscor (calibration fluid) would do pretty significant damage to most of all pedal rubbers....
...And if you managed to snag a nice chunk of CRS or HRS on the bttm of the boot it would usually put a nice Rip in the rubber usually down to the pedal surface.
Also, due to the rather high amount of force the clutch in the Ranger takes, repeatedly or often moving your foot when holding the clutch to the floor quickly wears the rubber down.
