Introduction and Speedometer Question
F-100 (352 V-8) long bed with step side, 3 speed on the column, and I plan to do a rolling restoration and use this truck as a farm truck and spare vehicle.
It was owned by one little old man and has set for about 14 years. I have rebuilt the carb and it runs a little rough and needs some more engine work, but I am overhauling the brakes first before I do some driving.
Big Question! When I am parked and I am in neutral and give it some gas, the more rpms I turn, the speedometer needle moves up to about 20-30 MPH. Do I have some kind of electical short? I also need a dipstick and some kind of replacement radio so I can fill up the 3 holes in the dash?
Any ideas.
Thanks a million.

Most any truck FE dipstick should work, probably a quick trip to a junk yard that isn't limited to the new stuff only and you can get one in a few minutes.
The three holes mean the truck came with a factory radio. You can find them at the larger swap meets. or you can install a new unit in the location.

Suggest checking clutch adjustment to determine if fully disengaging. If the truck has been setting for period of time, may be matter of driving the truck for period of time for mechanical components to function properly again. If trucks has the sweeping speedometer, I have found they can be sensitive and usually settle down with use. As mentioned, may be able to locate radio on ebay. On occasion, have seen them in salvage yard. Have found the radio has limited reception power, particularly in unincorporated area's. A majority of the time the radio in my 65 is strickly for show. IF you were to run a search, topic has come up on alternative to am radio without cutting into the dash. Seems with all modern tech. should be able to rig something where you can plug a cd, and or radio component into existing system, perhap MP3 or something simular; although, what I know about modern electronic tech. can be put on the back of a postage stamp. Enjoy your truck and post any questions.
