I just installed the BullyDog downloader and Outlook module, and it has an option to read and clear the DTC. I have two codes showing, P0487 and P1000. These will not clear. I have looked up the codes and see that P0487 is not listed (list stops at P0485) and found that P1000 = OBD-II Monitor Testing Incomplete. Does anyone know what the 487 code might mean, and what the 1000 means, and maybe why they won't clear?
P1000 is going to set anytime the computer is reset. That is only going to happen if it is flashed or you disconnect the batteries for a certain amount of time. To make a long story short, it is telling you that your computer has not learned all the fine tuning parameters for your engine yet. You'll need to complete what Ford will call a "Drive Cycle" to make that one go away. That will probably be in one of your owner's manual books under "Drive Cycle" or "OBDII Readiness". The engine might not run its best for a little while.
By the way, if you have the TorqShift tranny, it will have to relearn its shift strategy too. It might act a little screwy for a little bit. Nothing serious.
My 2004 Cookbook lists Code P0487 at "EGR Throttle Position Control Circuit" The note next to it says that the actuator circuit is open or shorted.
Thanks for the info, CB. The dealer reflashed the truck Monday, and then I reprogrammed Tuesday, so that probably explains the P1000. I am not sure what to do about the EGR circuit. It doesn't appear to be simply a glitch, since it is back immediatly after clearing.
The tranny is a bit strange running, sometimes not upshifting without a change in throttle position ar high rpm, sometimes a bit jerky in the shifts, sometimes OK. Hopefully it will work itself out.
Engine seems to be running OK, from what I can tell. I am using the Bullydog Outlook module to go from 0 to 80% in 25% increments on the fly, and it seems to respond well. I can certainly tell the difference between the settings immdediatly. Putting the pyro in this morning so I can better monitor things, tool.
That is the throttle plate rather than the EGR valve itself. Ford puts something similar to a butterfly valve in the intake on these trucks to help improve the EGR functionality. If you're interested, it'll be the big black lump on the side of the intake where it goes down into the engine. It's not that far downstream from that elbow where the pipe from the intercooler goes. You might have a look at the connector or see if a wire got chafed, anyway.
