1997 4 wheel drive
I have a 1997 Ford F150 extended cab, 4x4, 4.6 motor, 111,000 miles. When driving my truck it trys to go into 4 wheel drive by itself. The 4 wheel drive lever is on the floor. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the problem might be or if anyone has had this problem? To keep it from going into 4 wheel drive right now I have the fuse in the instrument panel pulled out(no.23 4 wheel drive 2 wheel drive vacuum solenoids clutch relay, electronic flasher). And the fuse in the power distruibution position is pulled out also(no.17 which is the 4 wheel drive transfer case shift motor and clutch).

I was wondering if a relay or a sensor is going bad and that might try to throw it in 4 wheel drive while driving down the road. as long as i got the fuses pulled it doesnt do it. Now my blinkers dont work or 4 x 4 dont work. When ever i need 4x4 i have to stop and put the fuse back in. I took it to a ford dealer and asked them only thing they said was it shouldn't do that since it was 4x4 shifter on the floor.

At this point, I would take it to the dealer. With all of the things you have turned off, via fuses, you have developed a safety issue. The dealership will get the problem solved quickly and in this instance, the cost will be worth it. Just my two cents.
