Hi - This is my first post. I have a '98, 4 X 4 w/ the 5.4 Liter engine and about 112,000 miles.
When under load, there is a clacking noise coming out from under the truck. It is not the engine because it doesn't do it going downhill or in neutral. There is also a rumbling (don't know how to describe it - it's not loud but you can feel it in your feet) when, for example, I take my foot off the gas at 70.
I figure it might be the torque converter. Does that sound right?
Anyway, the torque converter dust plug is missing, don't know for how long. Could that have caused some trouble?
Will replacing the tranny fluid fix the problem (if it is the converter?)
