finally getting it back together

finally got heads for my truck took 4 weeks to find heads that wernt cracked so 5 heads later not counting the ones that came with the truck i have two good ones they are all polished up and miced out and about as good as possible. so putting it back together tonight and i acidently scratched the head gasket with the head. small space 90 lb chunk of cast iron<!--emo&--> <!--endemo--> so i managed to put about a 1mm maby 1/2mm gash in the gasket real short about 5-6 mm, so im wondering if this matters or should i buy another head gasket?

I really would not worry about. when you tighten down the head bolts you are going to get a certain amount of gasket crush anyways. if the gash is only .5mm deep. put some high temp rtv on it and call it a day.

Don't use RTV on your head gasket, use Copper Seal, its made for head gaskets. Most auto part stores carry it. It comes in a spray can. You just spray both sides of the gasket, let it become tacky, install and torque. I use it on every engine I rebuild, and (knock on wood) I have never had a head gasket problem. Some guys that did a rebuild and had the head gasket not seal, removed the heads, used the Copper Seal, re-installed, and no problem.
