I have a 99 Explorer 4.0 OHV that keeps overheating. It is losing Coolant at a tremendous rate, however there is not any leaking onto the ground. When the engine warms up it is misfiring on 1 cylinder continuously and 2 cylinders intermiddently. I had to replace both heads last summer because they were cracked and it ran fine after that. A friend of mine that knows alot about fords (and the one that helped me replace the heads) said that more than likely it is a warped block.
Has anyone heard of the block warping? FYI..the cracked heads last year were just cracked, they were not warped.
The engine has 155k on it. We are going to do a compression check this weekend to find out which cylinders are leaking so we can pull the head off and check them out. I'm hoping to just find a problem with the head.
When you replaced the heads, did you put new head bolts in? If not, you may have blown a head gasket. Are the 2 cylinders that are misfiring on the same head?
