Hello All
Hope someone can help with this problem my 85 f150 (auto) has. The shift is not in sync with P R D L1 L2 , when the shift is in drive it shows like it is in R and everthing else shows out of order Rev sits in P etc. Can someone please help
You will find a "cable" attached to the shifting lever collar with a screw. Loosen the screw, make sure the cable is still in it's channel, (a piece of metal groved to form a lip the cable rides in)
and adjust it to where the indicator reads correctly in all gears, tighten the screw, then put back on the steering column cover.
I took the instrument cluster out of my '83 and had to lubricate the little needle pointer gizmo itself. Used a minute amount of white grease and cured its sticking in drive alot.
Hey. YOU try to come up with a right name when you've not slept all night last night!
The shift indicator has worked just fine for 5 years now...
Thanks for sending me on the right track, I had to replace the gearshift indicator assembly at a cost of $28.00. The small plastic cable had broken and was causing the gears not to reflect the right position.
