Another Oil question

Well, it's been a while since I've been on the forum. But I'm glad it's still here.

Anyway, now for the question... Is it okay to use 10W-30 in a 2004 Ranger with 3.0 motor?

The reason I'm asking is because down here in Southeast Texas, it gets just a little warm here. Some of the Dealerships put 10W-30 in all of their cars. I won't be specific about who does this, but the rationale is since it does get so warm here, that lighter oils break down faster than the heavier 10 W-30. While working for one of these dealers, I asked why and that was what I was told. Now, the owners manuel for some of these cars called for a lighter oil. However, since the dealership only had 10W-30, that's all they ever put in. I will say that it is not just one type manufacturer dealership doing this. The range of dealers doing this includes Chevrolet, Dodge and Ford.

Anyway, any information or other rationales would be appreciated. I have thought about the cost of buying various vicosities of oils and how much cheaper it is to buy bulk. But since dealerships ranging from Chevrolet, Dodge and Ford are doing this, I thought I would ask. Thanks.

It's ok to use that oil, and your off the warranty, so go with castrol GTX 10-30 or 40.
