Not familiar with that company. I used a kit from EZ wiring, they sell their 21 circuit kit for ~ 130. (probably has gone up now since the prices of metals have skyrocketed) but it was a very good deal even by the #, must have been 25# of materials! High quality and very complete.
I also used the EZ Wiring harness. I chose the 21 circuit harness with the regular sized fuse block. I was very impressed with the harness and the quality. You will probably have to add the occasional ground wire here and there but its no biggie.
I bought mine through Ebay. I'm sure you can find a distributor that will ship it across the pond
WOW, i just found the EZ wiring site and I am at a loss as to how they can make them so cheap.
I have mailed them to see if they will ship to the UK.
Cheers
Lee
I also bought their headlight and wiper switches and dimmer switch, they were the same as Painless sells for 1/2 the price! If there is a shortcoming it's their instructions, they are pretty basic and assume you have some familiarity with 12V circuits and making connections.
I too got their "all black" wire kit before they offered the colored kit (for the same price )and I was very satisfied. I also bought the headlight switch and while it seems to be OK quality, mine is very difficult to get the ****/rod in and out. Gotta twist/distort the switch assembly to get the rod back in or out. The price was fair, so not a big deal. Also not bad enough for me to go out and buy a new switch.
The kit provided enough wire length for me to completely hide my whole harnass. I didn't route it through the firewall. Instead, I went through the left kick panel and under the floor. You have to look hard to see it.
I agree, instructions were somewhat minimal but my truck falls in the custom category so I really didn't expect any real detail. They provided details where I needed them, primarily in the steering column area (mine is a Jeep column with GM connections). I was able to route and hook up everything the first time after spending a few well spent hours planning my wiring and hookups. I drafted a complete routing and hook up plan before starting. That helped a LOT.
I buy from them again in a heart beat.
Good luck.
You usually cover the wires with some sort of loom anyways to keep them bundled together. I find the colored wires make them easier to trace and troubleshoot later especially when wiring in non standard accessories and electronics.
Don't cut off unused wires, take out the fuse and use a small jewelers screwdriver or pick to release the terminal and wire from the fuse block. put them away for future additions to your truck.
Lee,
Thats great news. I ws able to hide my loom really well, I dropped mine through the floorboard on the paseenger side and was kept everything low and hidden. I used the color harness and stuffed it inside of split loom everywhere for protection. I madified a few things for my application, no biggie, I kept good notes and made a schematic for what I changed.
I am upgrading my 52 Panel and chose to go with Hot Rod Wires 24 circuit wiring kit. Great quality, good instructions that are easy to follow. I may have over killed on capacity as I won't be using all circuits now but will have room for add ons later. I know I will never be "done" with this truck until one of us dies!
I also have the "black wire" harness, bought it about 6-7 years ago for under $100.
I have a T-bird column and a Ford headlamp switch,no big deal to wire everything together. Everyone thinks you have to have "GM" components to do the job, bull,if you any kind of skills and a little planning you can wire up anything to work.
My column has the cruise control switches on the steering wheel,I will utilize them when I put in my 88 5.0 that is laying on the floor that I have to finish.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Painless wiring harness!
They offer harnesses on Ebay and it all sounds good. I need more circuits. My wiring is starting to look horrible with all the direct battery hookups and in line fuses.
Are there any accessories you guys WOULD go direct to the battery?
I can't think of anything other than the starter and alternator that I'd wire directly to the battery without going thru a fuse or circuit breaker, either in the panel or an inline. Except for the battery cables themselves no smaller wire can handle the full amps a battery is capable of putting out, and a short would instantly turn them into a red hot fire ignitor! Some high powered stereo equipment is wired direct to the battery with a heavy wire because it draws more power than the typical wiring size can handle, but it is still fused.
If you have several items you want to wire without going thru the fuse panel, consider putting in a strip connector in a suitable location and feed it with one inline fused wire. still use inline fuses from the connector to the accessory if that fuse is a lower amp than the main fuse feeding the strip.
Be sure to also use a rubber grommet to protect the wires anywhere they pass thru a hole in metal.
