Hi new to board. Just got an '05 Exp Eddie. drove it 300 miles and loved it.
I'll be asking some very redundant questions I'm sure. Search seems to work only sometimes, strange?
1st question(s) involves the audio. Any have specs for audio system? I have the 6 disc changer and apparently a sub in the back.
I would like to replace the factory speakers with something upgraded but compatable with the stock output - for now.
Is subwoofer powered by own amp?
Any common replacements being used with success?
Thanks and sorry for bringing up old issues but I will appreciate all responses. I would like to learn as much as I can about about my car from some of ya with experience.
i good place to check for replacement audio parts would be crutchfield.com, at least to get the right fit/replacements - their prices aren't the best.
i believe the subwoofer is self-powered (is that what they call it?) but i could very well be wrong.
i know there have been other's who've replaced their stock systems and are quite happy with their new setups, you might be able to find some old threads about it with a search.
the search doesn't always work for me either, and even when it does it doesn't always answer the question i was trying to ask. most people on this thread are pretty laid back and wont jump down your throat for reposting a question (afterall, they've just about all been asked before, so w/out reposts there'd be quite little to talk about).
ZipDogg, do some searches on the sound system, you'll find tons of "advice". I do recall at 1 point everyone assumed you couldn't get nuch better without changing the head itself but seems lately people are getting around that!

what i've heard is that the single best upgrade, in terms of noticeable sound improvement, is a speaker upgrade. (this is also the cheapest/easiest thing to replace IMHO.
my uneducated guess is that if you're just going to replace the sub with another sub in the same location you wont be getting much improvement out of it.
if you really want some bass you'll prob have to look for subs/enclosures for another area of your expy.
EVERYONE seems to get the Polk speakers for an upgrade. Don't take everyone else's word for it. Go hear what sounds good to you at your local stereo shop and pick from there. I'm not knockin Polk, but they really aren't the best you can get. You can get some nice eclipse or infinity speakers for the same price. Accompanied with a new sub and amp and it will sound very nice. Almost forgot, you may have component tweeters in the A pillars as well and would benefit from replacing those as well. You really should talk to your local stereo shop to make sure you don't run the wrong impedence and risk blowing your factory amp for the doors.
Also, your best bet is the same place for a replacement sub and amp. Don't even think about using the same amp anymore, it will not power an aftermarket sub like you are going to want it to. Sure, it will move it, but the other speakers will over power the sub. I doubt it has changed much from mine and the factory one I have is a little 5" x 6" amp.
I'm running a simple 250W mono amp for my Navigator (Factory is maybe 50-75Watts). I was able to replace the sub in the factory box with an 8" Elemental Designs sub. It get plenty loud, but the factory box sucks sooooooo bad. Tons of flex going on with that thing from the better equipment. I'll be fiberglassing a new box once it cools down a little.
Just to let you know, my stereo shop offered to put a JL sub and I don't remember what amp in for about $200. That's really quite cheap and it is so much better than stock. I just chose to go a different route.
