Replace the lights and key chimes.

Hi. The last time I was here I got my turn signal problem answered. I have a 1991 Ford 150. This time I would like to replace the chimes for the lights are on and the keys are in the ignition. The sound is there but is so faint I can't hear them. I have left the lights on several times not hearing the chimes. Is there something that can be replaced or is there a fuse for this? Thank you, ksharon

The device that beeps is located near your right foot, under the dash, just above the trans tunnel.

Grab yourself one from a similar year town car, they have a more pleasant tone and are quite loud. New, or junkyard style.

I have the same problem. Tried finding the chime by listening for it. Too faint to locate exactly. Thanks for giving me a more precise location, but can you tell me what it looks like?
Thanks Frank

On my 92 F150, the unit that makes the chime was secured to the underside of the dash board where frederic mentioned. It is a black unit with a two inch (or so) plug that has at least 6 wires/pins in it. When you disconnect it there will be no more chime. That is how you know it is the right one.

Found it right where you said it was. My 90 is lite grey colored. Headed for the local UPULL. Checked 88-92 lincolins. No joy. The Lincolins use a card type connection. MY truck has the typical spade lug connection. At least I'm guessing what I was seeing in the Lincolins was the chime. It had a little opening in the box like a speaker. Thought about taking the plug and all and trying to splice it in, but without a wiring digram from the lincolin, would be pretty hard to get right.
Found one from an 88 F150 that used a buzzer. Plug was different, but close. Tried it in my truck and it was God Awful loud, but only for the key in the ignition. Lights on didn't give anything. Used one from a 91 F150 that is identical to mine, but the volumn is only slightly louder. Still not going to do the job if I leave the lights on. Anyone have another idea to try?
Thanks Frank

With the key chime is it supposed to only come on with the door opened and the key in or just the door opened. Mine comes on with key out and is loud and annoying. I unplugged it.

my 94 has a loud and disturbing buzzers for the keys, it's doesn't have one for the headlights, I would like to be able to have a buzzer for the headlights, is the same buzzer for both keys and headlights or are there two different buzzers for that?

The connector actually has 7 wires, but the double-buzzer unit (in my F350 at least) only picks up 6 of them. The 7th is hot when the tail lamps are on. Perhaps the town car chime unit would pick up that 7th wire and alert when the lights are on AND the door is open. As it is, the double-buzzer unit just indicates two conditions (with differently pitched buzzers); 1) Key in and door open 2) Key on and seat belt not fastened (and seat belt warning timer not expired).

I've had my buzzer unit disconnected for over a year - maybe one day I'll get motivated to either find a pleasant-sounding chime unit that includes the "lights on and door open" alert, or build one...

Thank you Frederic. You were very helpful in giving the location of the unit. I never would have found it. I took it apart to look at it and put it back in and it worked again.Thank you so much for the help.
