Brake help on 2002 X

Well here I was needing brakes, no big deal (I thought) I can do them. So I did. Bought the pads, sent the rotors out to be cut, all good. Most of the parts were on so tight I was barely able to get them off (but I did). I put it all back together and there is a serious brake pull on the passenger side. The caliper looked ok when I put it back on but I pulled it apart again just to check it. Unfortunately the slider on the top passenger side for the caliper retainer is frozen in place. I have tried beating it with a hammer, duralube spray, liquid wrench, C Clamp, Vise Grips, etc., It will not budge at all. Has anyone run into this before? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did you lube the caliper slide pins. ? If not you might have a stuck caliper. There is a tech article on how to lube the pins. Sorry I don't remember where.
If the slider is stuck and you can't get it freed up you might have to buy a new caliper. Jim

Thanks for the reply but I can't lube what won't come loose. That's the problem is the caliper slide pins won't free up. They aren't connected to the caliper so replacing the caliper won't help. They're connected to the caliper retainer, and just won't come loose no matter what I do.

The caliper slide pins if I remember correctly will screw out. They are usually held with a little locktite to prevent them from comming loose. You will have to remove the locking pins. The last ones I took out I had to use a breaker bar to get the loose. After they were loose I got them out. You are right,, you will have to get the pins out. Best of luck. Jim
