Transfercase fluid
I spoke with a specialist on transfer cases and he recommended using Synthetic 5W-30 motor oil instead of the Mecron specified in the owners manual. He said that regular ATF when it gets hot evaporates. Has anyone heard of this before? The transfer case is in a 1997 AWD mountaineer.

Sounds a bit over the top to me.
I went with Amsoil ATF in my trans and transfer case.
Soon to be in my power steering unit too.
