I figured I would post this here first to get some local input.
Here's the deal I am getting a 351 not sure if it is a mod, cleveland or windsor but it has a edelbrock intake valve covers and carb it is suposedly newly rebuilt and best of all it is a freebeeeeeeeeee. (long story)
My question is how would I go about starting this motor to test it without it being in a vehicle the electrical is not a problem I can figure that out I think. But what else would I need as far as fuel delivery?
My plans are to buld this complete with gauges and radiator to test the motor as for it will be my winter project to beef this motor up and I want to test it from time to time. I really don't think this would be that hard to do but I could be wrong. If any of you have ever done this fill me in. Any input much appreciated.
Be carful running it on an enginge stand (tip over) fuel shouldn't be a problem... run a fuel line to a gallon gas can. Allot of people us a mock up with a short frame (no body or fenders) just a frame, and wheels, then you can run the whole thing like an airboat and scoot around the shop :-)
Thanks Flip I am planning on building something to bolt the motor to close to the ground that I can also mount a radiator to. Now I just need to start looking for a little 1990 style mustang coupe to stuff it in.
If you have an agri-irrigation supplier in your area, a lot of farmers use two wheel carts to mount power units on so they can be hauled into storage at the end of the season. You could take a look at one of them for construction ideas. That may be more work than you are looking for to do a temporary kind of thing.
You can pick up an engine STORAGE stand for around $30-$40, they sit low to the ground so it won't flip over. Your gonna need power to the starter, of course and then depending on what ignition you have will determin how you wire it. Go get a cheap set of MECHANICAL guages and a fuel tank from a boat and you should be good to go.
